Resignation Letter Templates

Resignation Letter Templates

Do you need to write a resignation letter? It can be difficult sometimes knowing where to start, what to include and how to format it.  It is customary that resignation letters are kept formal, concise and polite. Here are two examples of resignation templates, for a one month’s notice resignation letter and a retirement notification letter.

One Months’ Notice

The standard notice period for most companies is one month or four weeks, depending on the company policy. A formal written resignation letter is required in the majority of cases and should be submitted to your line manager. In addition, a copy is usually given to HR.

This formal letter should be kept simple, concise and to the point. The first line should clearly state that you are resigning from the company and what specific date you will be leaving.

Next, you should express your appreciation for your time with the company and mention anything, in particular, you want to thank them for. You don’t need to go into too much detail but simply be grateful for the opportunity.

Finally, you should end on a positive note, offering your best wishes for the future of the company and offering your services during your leave period.

Retirement Letter

Most employers will need a formal written copy of your notification to retire. Therefore, check your company handbook at least six months prior to your retirement and note how long they need a receipt of the letter. In most cases, it is three months before and HR will also need a copy of this letter.

The retirement letter is similar to the standard resignation letter however the employee sometimes includes more personal touches. A sample might be:
